Inspiration for a Weary Soul

We’ve talked recently of inspiration books and the power of words and images to shift the mood and lighten the spirit. This morning my lake walk was magic. A frosty morning, with the sun tentatively making a shy appearance. The birds had none of this reticence and warbled wildly as I passed by. Where the sun could reach it, the lake sparkled and danced. Where shade prevailed the mist rose from the lake and the colours of a Rubens portrait, shades of darkness and light were reenacted before my eyes. I’m blessed to be alive and able to witness such beauty.

I recently came across this very timely reminder. It’s my favourite inspiration as we battle through these troubled times…………

In the midst of winter, I found there was within me an invincible summer.  And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me there’s something stronger- something better, pushing right back.    Albert Camus, The Stranger

And cartoonist and writer, Michael Leunig reflects on resilience…………………

Come sit down beside me, I said to myself, and although it doesn’t make much sense, I held my own hand as a small sign of trust. And together I sat on the fence.

This is such a short, powerful question……………….

Why are we so loyal to our suffering, so addicted to our self- judgement?      Tara Brach

Self acceptance of the good bits and the bad bits is hard…………

It’s easier to try and be better than you are than to be who you are.              Marion Woodman Coming Home to Myself

And for those in lock-down…….

There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.     Jane Austin

I love you. I am at rest with you. I have come home.            Dorothy L. Sayers

Speaking many years ago……..

Life is perfect chaos from which one can wrest no more than a few mysterious fragments of order.     Albert Moravia

And don’t ever forget…

Il buon tempo verra.……. The good time is coming….!
